Bitmain launches 'most efficient' mining machine amid market shift

Bitmain has launched the Antminer S23 Hydro series, which has a performance of 580 terahash per second (TH/s) and a power consumption of 5,510 watts, making it the "most efficient" mining machine currently available.

Demand for mining machines is falling

Bitcoin mining machine manufacturer Bitmain has launched its new Antminer S23 Hydro series, which it claims has a performance of 580 terahash per second (TH/s) and a power consumption of 5,510 watts. This performance means an efficiency of 9.5 joules per terahash (J/TH), making the Antminer the "most efficient" miner on the market.

According to a recent report from theminermag.com , the new mining machine is particularly suitable for Bitcoin miners who want to maximize output while reducing operating costs. The product was launched at the 2025 World Digital Mining Summit, where Irene Gao, president of Bitmain Mining, discussed the company’s strategy for coping with the decline in demand for mining machines.

As highlighted in the analysis, Bitmain offers flexible payment terms, including the option to pay in three installments, with an initial installment of 40% of the sales value followed by two equal payments. Buyers can choose to stake Bitcoin (BTC) for up to six months to acquire the mining machines.

After the latest BTC halving on April 20, 2024, Bitcoin miners saw their revenues shrink as the block reward dropped from 6.25 BTC to 3.125 BTC. This left mining companies with a choice: either upgrade to more energy-efficient machines or find cheaper energy sources. Mining companies that fail to achieve either may be forced to cease operations.

At the same time, the report notes that ASIC hardware buyers now have greater bargaining power, as can be seen in recent deals. The report says companies like Cleanspark , Hut 8, and HIVE have secured favorable terms from Bitmain, taking advantage of falling demand and manufacturers’ need to maintain sales amid tightening margins.

Meanwhile, Bitmain expects to complete first shipments of its latest Antminer S23 Hydro in the first quarter of 2026, with early buyers expected to enjoy discounts.
